Visa Unveils AI-Powered Dispute Resolution Tools

Visa is rolling out a suite of AI-powered dispute resolution tools designed to help merchants and financial institutions cut administrative costs and reduce fraud-related losses and the timing couldn’t be more critical.

Disputes continue to be a major headache in today’s business world. Visa, for instance, handled a staggering 106 million disputes worldwide in 2025, a 35% jump from 2019. This translates to billions of dollars lost, along with the administrative burden and unhappy customers that ripple through the payment system.

To combat this, Visa has rolled out six new AI-driven tools. Three are aimed at merchants, and the other three are designed for issuers and acquirers.

What Merchants Will See

The first tool is a Resolution Network, designed to streamline the process before a dispute formally arises. Think of it as a pre-emptive strike, a way to nip potential problems in the bud before they become major headaches. Then, a Recovery Manager leverages Generative AI to automate the representment process. It crafts replies, handles the back-and-forth of disputes, and even offers win-prediction scores, helping merchants decide which battles are worth their time.

Completing the merchant’s arsenal is Order Insight, a tool that gives cardholders immediate access to detailed transaction data. Many disputes stem from simple confusion over charges, and this tool tackles that problem at the source.

What Issuers and Acquirers Are Getting

On the financial institution side, Dispute Intelligence uses predictive AI models to give analysts network-wide context for case-by-case decisions moving beyond gut feel to data-driven resolution. The Dispute Doc Analyzer takes over, automatically summarizing the documents merchants submit and pulling out the essential data in a structured way. This relieves analysts of a considerable amount of work, sparing them the tedium of manual reviews.

Then, the Visa Dispute Case Manager pulls everything together on a single platform. It brings together workflows from various card networks, all under one AI-powered dashboard.

Why This Matters Now

Andrew Torre, President of Value-Added Services at Visa, put it plainly:

“Disputes put strain on every part of the payments ecosystem, frustrating consumers, while driving cost and complexity for merchants and financial institutions. When outdated technology cannot keep pace, fraud goes undetected.”

He added that the expanded suite gives clients the visibility and efficiency needed to focus on growth not paperwork.

This development hints at a larger trend within the industry. Artificial intelligence is no longer relegated to the background. It’s evolving into a primary weapon against fraud and the various hurdles that can slow down financial transactions.
